Over 6,000 EV vehicles worth Rs 15 billion imported in 7 months, revenue only rose by Rs 9 billion

Kathmandu. In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, 6,256 electric cars, jeeps and vans (EV vehicles) have been imported into Nepal. This is 1.57 percent more than the same period last fiscal year. In the same period last fiscal year, such imports were 6,159.

2,159 50 kW EV vehicles have been imported till Magh. Similarly, 3,491 EVs ranging from 51 kW to 100 kW have been imported to Nepal in the last 7 months.

According to the data released by the Department of Customs, 593 EVs ranging from 101 kW to 200 kW have been imported to Nepal, while 11 EVs ranging from 201 kW to 300 kW and 2 EVs above 300 kW have been imported to Nepal.

Nepali entrepreneurs have spent 14.75 billion 3.97 million rupees to purchase these EVs until the month of Magh, while the Nepalese government has collected 9.84 billion 4.254 billion rupees in revenue through this. .

How much has been imported from which country?

With the increase in EV users in Nepal, imports have also increased. According to the data released by the department, currently the largest import of EV vehicles is from China.

As of Magh of the current fiscal year, 4,769 EVs have been imported to Nepal from China alone. The imported EVs include 570 with a capacity of 101 kW to 200 kW, 2,922 with a capacity of 51 kW to 100 kW, 1,268 with a capacity of 50 kW, 7 with a capacity of 201 kW to 300 kW, and 2 with a capacity of more than 300 kW.

Similarly, in the past 7 months, 1,459 EVs have been imported to Nepal from India, while 20 have been imported from Germany, 3 from South Korea (Republic of Korea), and 5 from the United States (US), according to the data. Low cost and easy financing have led to an increase in the use of electric vehicles.

By the month of Magh of the fiscal year 2080/81, 6,159 EVs had been imported to Nepal. Through which Nepali entrepreneurs spent Rs 15.49 billion 46 million abroad. In the 7 months of the fiscal year 2080/81, the government collected Rs 6.62 billion 80 million 30 thousand in revenue through EV imports.

In the 7 months of the fiscal year 2079/80, only 2,09 EVs were imported into Nepal. For those EV imports, Rs 5.62 billion 99 million 83 thousand was spent by Nepali entrepreneurs, through which the government collected Rs 1.58 billion 36 million 32 thousand in revenue.
