Palpa. This year, 9,098 metric tons of oranges have been produced in the district. Last year, 8,861 metric tons were produced, according to the Agricultural Knowledge Center. This time, the production has increased by 337 metric tons compared to the previous year.
This year, oranges worth Rs. 527.684 million have been sold, said Santosh Kumar Chaudhary, head of the center. According to him, oranges worth Rs. 467.72 million were sold last year. An amount equivalent to 66.912 million rupees has entered the district from the sale of oranges this year, more than the previous year.
‘Farmers here have recently started commercial production as they are getting good income from oranges. This year, the production area has increased compared to the previous year, and marketing has become easier,’ he said.
Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality produced 3,639 metric tons from an area of 452 hectares, Ribdikot produced 3,184 metric tons from an area of 396 hectares, Baganaskali produced 91 metric tons from 113 hectares, Purbakhola Rural Municipality produced 728 metric tons from 90 hectares, Tansen Municipality produced 546 metric tons from 68 hectares, and Mathagadhi Rural Municipality produced 91 metric tons from 11 hectares. Orange production has been started.
Although the district has an area of 1,196 hectares for orange production, only 1,130 hectares is productive.
Six out of the ten municipalities in the district grow oranges commercially. As oranges start to earn better income than grain crops, farmers here have focused on commercial production.
