Kathmandu. CPN(UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Bartola has said that the activities of opposition parties to stop the government in the rostrum of parliament would not be acceptable.
Talking to media persons at the Parliament House premises, Chief Whip Bartola said that it would not be acceptable to stop the home minister from going to the rostrum rather than replying on behalf of the Government of Nepal after the question was raised.
He clarified that the Home Minister was ready to speak, so he was free to put forth what the opposition did not like after he spoke. But not allowing the Home Minister to speak was unparliamentary and apolitical, he said.
Chief Whip Bartola said it was a natural process to reply to the parliament after the issues of public concern were raised and clarified that the working style of the opposition parties, including the main opposition, was sad.
“Yesterday’s parliament meeting was stalled due to the main opposition, especially to ask some questions to the Home Minister. However, the main opposition said that today’s meeting should be stopped and tomorrow we will create an environment for smooth functioning of parliament. Accordingly, we have postponed yesterday’s meeting. In today’s meeting, the second topic is how to go about government business, other works in the proposed agenda. After the question is raised, I will reply to the Honorable Home Minister on behalf of the Government of Nepal. ‘
“The kind of obstruction or blockade imposed on the government by creating hurdles in the home minister’s speech in parliament after saying that he will tell about the entire incident in parliament is sad. It is not acceptable to move parliament forward in this way. It is a natural parliamentary process to stop the government in parliament and address issues of public concern after it is raised. The Home Minister is ready to respond to the issues raised by the opposition parties. Stopping him is unparliamentary. This is not a political issue. The home minister should be allowed to speak, they are not satisfied. Again, we want to request, let’s speak the ruling party, let’s speak the opposition too, the government has said that it will speak, i will answer about the incident. If you are not satisfied, you can put forth your point again,” he said.
He urged the opposition parties not to disrupt parliament.
