‘One ward, one public pond’ programme to conserve water bodies in Bhojpur

Bhojpur. Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality has implemented the ‘One Ward, One Public Pond’ construction programme with the aim of protecting the catchment area. The rural municipality has launched the programme for the protection of the sources.

The rural municipality has said that it is working with the idea of constructing ponds in 54 wards to maintain environmental compatibility. Prem Kumar Rai, chairperson of the rural municipality, said that the ‘One Ward One Pond’ programme has been launched with the objective of protecting the water bodies by minimizing the problems caused by climate change.

He said that the work of digging the pond is going on under this program. “We have launched the ‘One Ward One Pond’ programme to prevent the naturally grown sources from drying up,” rai said. ’

According to him, the construction of the pond will improve the source of water, ease of irrigation and can be used during emergencies. According to him, the pond will help in removing the water shortage immediately and recharging the naturally grown sources. Mahesh Niraula, chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, said that the programme has been brought into operation with the aim of protecting the water sources by reducing the problems faced for irrigation due to lack of water.

“We have been constructing public ponds every year under this programme,” said Administrative Officer Niraula. The work of collecting water from the ponds is underway. This work will also help in the conservation of the environment along with the sources. Administrative Officer Niraula said that although it does not seem to be very useful for the time being, it is beneficial for future generations.

Kumar Bista, ward chair of Ghodetar of Hatuwagadhi-1, said the construction of the pond has made it easier for the locals to cultivate vegetables and agriculture. According to him, the construction of the pond has contributed to the conservation at a time when many water sources are drying up due to natural disasters, including earthquakes, along with human activities. Arrangements have also been made to use the water stored in the pond during the fire.
