Kavrepalanchok, the ‘One Ward, One Agricultural Product’ program has been implemented in five local municipalities here. According to the program run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Directorate of Agriculture Development, Bagmati Province Government, the program has been implemented in five wards of the five levels of Kavrepalanchok for five years from the current fiscal year.
According to the District Agriculture Development Office Dhulikhel, the program has been implemented in Panauti Municipality-5, Bethanchok Rural Municipality-2, Mahabharat Rural Municipality-5, Khanikhola Rural Municipality-2 and Bhumlu Rural Municipality-1. According to the program, vegetable, coffee and kiwi production will be carried out on 600 ropanis of land in five wards. The program has been launched by signing a tripartite agreement between the Agricultural Development Office, local level and beneficiary communities and cooperatives. Panauti and Bethanchowk have been selected for vegetable production, Mahabharat and Khanikhola for coffee production, and Bhumlu for kiwi production.
It is stated that agreements will be made with local cooperatives and community groups to implement the program. According to the approved program, an agreement has been signed for coffee cultivation in Mahabharat and a similar agreement is in the process of being signed in Khanikhola, said Office Chief Kul Prasad Dawadi. “The agreement is being made by selecting communities and cooperatives, we will select seasonal and non-seasonal vegetables and start production immediately,” he said. According to him, discussions have been held between local level people’s representatives and the community to implement the program.
The Bagmati Province government has launched a five-year livestock and fishery production program under the ‘One Ward, One Agriculture Program’ in the current fiscal year, giving priority to agricultural production. Under the program, which will be run in partnership, the government will invest 60 percent, the local level 20 percent, and the community or cooperative 20 percent. Under this, 6.6 million rupees will be invested in production work for one ward.
