Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said that he has not been able to do as much work as needed in the fight against money laundering. Speaking at a program organized on Monday on the occasion of the First National Day of Prevention of Money Laundering, 2081, he admitted that although a lot of work needs to be done to prevent money laundering, the work has not been done as expected.
He said that it is necessary for the relevant agencies to intensify the work of investigation and prosecution to prevent money laundering. Finance Minister Poudel said that in order to reduce financial crimes, it is necessary for the bodies related to the money laundering prevention system to work in a coordinated manner and prioritize investigation and prosecution.
He emphasized that in the coming days, the standards set by international organizations and the implementation of the laws and regulations created by the government should be excellent.
He mentioned that it is necessary to establish a standard that the innocent will not be punished and the guilty will not be exempted, and anyone guilty of money laundering will be punished.
Emphasizing that effective work should be done in the coming days to establish a standard that the innocent will not be punished, he said that the problem of money laundering is not only in Nepal but in the world. .
He said that many countries are trying to come out of this problem, solve it and maintain financial integrity and good governance. He said that the Government of Nepal is also making some efforts to formulate the necessary laws.

We should have been able to be proud that we have effectively advanced the campaign against money laundering. But in the meantime, work has not been done effectively and promptly,’ he said.
He added that in the coming days, we should be excellent in complying with international organizations and implementing the laws we have created ourselves, ‘It is necessary to intensify the work of investigation and prosecution. The innocent will not be punished. We should be able to establish a standard that the guilty will not be exempted. Anyone guilty of money laundering will be punished. No innocent person should be afraid. Effective work will be done in the coming days to establish a standard that they will not come under the purview of punishment. We hope that we will be able to establish the identity of an excellent nation in the issue of preventing money laundering within the country and before the world.’
He said that Nepal, which has moved forward after passing the first and second phases of the assessment, is not in a position to move forward without any dilemma when it reaches the third phase.
