Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that a governor will be appointed in Nepal Rastra Bank soon.
He said this while answering questions from journalists at a press conference organized at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. He admitted that there has been a delay in appointing a governor who has the capacity to bring about reforms in the country’s overall economy. He also claimed that an agreement has been reached among the ruling parties regarding the appointment of the governor.
He also informed that the government will take a decision as per the guidelines of the meeting of the ruling political machinery. He said, “Since the economic situation of the entire country needs to improve, it is not unusual for all parties to have their own interests in the issue of appointing a governor. Yesterday, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli agreed to appoint a governor. Now a meeting of the mechanism is being held. We believe that the meeting will provide policy guidelines. The problem of the governor will be resolved soon. Even now, it is not being run by a person of authority. It is being run by giving an acting governor.”
Earlier, Minister Gurung had said that there was no disagreement between Oli and Deuba on the governor. The dispute between Prime Minister Oli and Deuba on the issue of running the government is increasing. Meanwhile, Congress President Deuba had told Oli that the government would not be in his shoes if the person he had mentioned was not appointed as governor.
Minister Gurung mentioned that the government is also sensitive to the demands of teachers. He also informed that the government has already recommended convening a budget session to fulfill the legitimate demands of teachers.
