Kathmandu. The number of Nepalis leaving the country permanently is increasing. Due to increasing corruption, political strife, anarchy, disorder and unemployment in the country, nepalis are increasingly leaving the country forever. In the last two years alone, 137,000 Nepalis have migrated abroad from the country.
According to the Immigration Office, the number of men leaving the country and migrating abroad is more than women. In the last two years alone, 71,207 Nepali men have migrated permanently and gone abroad without obtaining permission from Nepal. Similarly, 66,538 women have migrated abroad.
According to the data received from the Immigration Office, 70,915 Nepalis have permanently migrated abroad in 2023 alone, while 66,835 Nepalis have always stayed there in 2024. This shows that a large number of Nepalis are leaving the country and migrating abroad.
At a time when there has been speculation that there is no investment climate in Nepal in the recent past, there is a fear that domestic capital is not migrating through thousands of Nepalis. However, the government does not track the background identity of Nepalis leaving the country.
According to government data, a large number of Nepalis are going abroad not only permanently but also to stay there temporarily. In 2023, 92,349 Nepalis had temporarily left Nepal to stay abroad, while in 2024 alone, 66,835 Nepalis left Nepal using the airport to stay abroad, according to data from the Immigration Office.
In the last two years, a large number of people have gone abroad in search of employment. In 2023 and 2024 alone, 1,664,837 Nepalis went abroad for livelihood due to lack of work in Nepal. According to the Immigration Office, the number of people going to different countries for employment has also increased in 2024 compared to 2023.
In 2023, the number of Nepalis going abroad in search of work was 808,415, which increased to 856,422 in 2024.
In the last two years, a large number of students have gone out to study. In 2023 and 2024 alone, 227,951 students went abroad on student visas in Nepal alone. Compared to 2023, the number of people going abroad to study has increased in 2024.
In 2023, 108,542 students went abroad to study, while in 2024 alone, 119,509 students left the country for studies.
Similarly, the number of Nepalis going abroad on visit visa has also increased in recent times. According to the data provided by the Department of Immigration, 478,846 Nepalis have gone abroad in the last 2018. According to statistics, more Nepalis went abroad in 2024 as compared to 2023.
In 2023, 204,518 Nepalis went abroad for travel, while in 2024 alone, 274,518 Nepalis went on visit visas to visit different countries.
