NRB forms ‘Banking Sector Reform Suggestion Task Force’, Karki as coordinator

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has formed a task force to suggest banking sector reforms for overall reform and strengthening of the banking sector. A three-member taskforce has been formed under the coordination of Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki.

The taskforce comprises Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki as coordinator, Bhuwan Kumar Bahal as member and Executive Director of Bank and Financial Institution Regulation Department of Nepal Rastra Bank as member secretary. The duration of the task force will be one month, according to the Rastra Bank.

In this period, banking policy regulation has been liberal but prudent( prudent), with regard to effective supervision based on risk and development of customer-friendly banking services, regarding the role to be played by the banking sector in making economic activity fully operational, regarding the steps to be taken to make credit flow effective in rural areas, about the merger and acquisition of banks and financial institutions and suggestions for identification and solution to the problems that have followed. Rastra Bank has been given the responsibility to complete the work regarding the role to be played by the banking sector to remove Nepal from the grey list and the coordinating role of the central bank in the development of the capital market.
