Kathmandu. Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) have demanded continuation of citizenship acquired on the basis of descent. They made the complaint at a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Monday to discuss with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and British Gurkha soldiers on the bill to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 BS.
They have urged the government to welcome those who have taken foreign citizenship if they want to take Citizenship of Nepal. In the meeting, Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) founding chair Upendra Mahato said that non-resident Nepalis and British Gurkha soldiers were worried that their children should not call Nepal abroad.
He said that he believed that Nepal would be made easy arrangement of citizenship in the minds of their children as their motherland and the place where their parents were born. He argued that there was no problem in granting citizenship to non-resident Nepalis. He also said that they want to see Nepal prosperous in their own lives.
He said, “Non-resident Nepali friends, friends of British Gurkhas are worried that we will live for 20 years, 25 years now, after that my children should not call Nepal abroad.” We believe that Nepal is my motherland, Nepal is the place where my parents were born. There is nothing that will bother any country in this regard. ”
NRNA activist Rajendra Kumar Sharma stressed the need for continuing the citizenship acquired on the basis of clarity or descent in the non-resident Nepali citizenship in order to stop the outflow of Nepal’s wealth.
He urged the government to make arrangements with all rights other than political rights. He stressed the need to make arrangements to work in the institutes even if they could not be included in government jobs to bring the knowledge skills learned abroad.
“Non-resident Nepali citizenship is clearly demanded to stop the flow of Nepal’s wealth,” he said. What should be done now should be done with all the rights except political rights. Secondly, in order to bring in the knowledge and skills we have learned, we need to make arrangements to work in other institutes even if we do not have a government job. ”
In the meeting of the committee, former President of Non-Resident Nepali Association Rabina Thapa said that it was unfortunate that the implementation of the issues mentioned in the constitution was delayed. He said that the brothers who have taken non-resident citizenship do not want to accept the land revenue office during the share. He also said that it was worrisome that it could not be officially accepted after being made a citizen.
“It seems that there may have been such a delay in implementing the constitution which was written in the constitution to grant non-resident citizenship,” he said. When non-resident citizenship has been given in the law, many friends have taken it. After taking that citizenship, some brothers are abroad and some are also here. They have to share. First you want citizenship, after going to the land revenue, you do not know that citizenship. If you don’t know why? He didn’t give it. It’s easier to do those things with great attention, and I don’t think it will cause any problems. ”
Coordinator of the “Lose Citizenship” campaign Basudev Ghimire said the state would get investment of Rs 3.5 trillion if 500,000 non-resident Nepalis could be repatriated to Nepal. He said that if 500,000 non-resident Nepalis come to Nepal from developed countries and settle in Nepal and create employment opportunities for only 20 percent, about three million will get employment.
He expressed the belief that employment to these three million would create a situation for workers to be imported from abroad and this would also make the economy vibrant. “If we bring back 500,000 non-resident Nepalis to Nepal, the state will get Rs 3,500 billion i.e. Rs 3.5 trillion, twice the budget of Nepal, as an investment by the state without any condition,” he said.
If 500,000 Non-Resident Nepalis come to Nepal from developed countries and settle in Nepal and create only 20 per cent employment opportunities, two to three million will get employment. If we want to employ two to three million people, we have to get workers from abroad. Can you imagine? We provide a monthly salary of Rs 40-6 trillion, if that amount is included in nepal’s economy, then nepal’s economy will be dynamic. ”
They have said that it is sad to see Nepalis who are not abroad as foreigners.
