No need to provide information related to privacy: Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that there is no need to provide information related to privacy. He said this while addressing an interaction program with the ministry-level information officers organized by the National Information Commission on Tuesday.

He clarified that the constitution has given citizens the right to information, but it is not necessary to provide information including peace and security of the country, defense of the country, foreign relations and diplomatic relations.

Stating that these information is related to the country’s defence, he said that the country could not remain in a state of affairs while giving all the information in the name of transparency and good governance. Stating that it is necessary to understand the provisions of the Constitution in a balanced, expanded and holistic manner

Home Minister Lekhak said, “It is our duty to give right to information. It is the citizen’s duty to get information. Right to information is not to be given as soon as it is asked for. Some information is related to privacy. It is not necessary to give this information. They are related to the peace and security of the country. They are linked to the defense of the country. They are associated with foreign relations. They are connected with diplomatic relations. Now even if all the information is left in the name of transparency, good governance, then the country will not settle down, it will lead to chaos. It is necessary to understand the provisions of the constitution in a balanced, expanded and holistic manner. The Right to Information (RTI) referee is the Information Commission. ’

Home Minister Lekhak also urged the government to give information without hiding it and if the information had to be hidden, it could not be given due to privacy.
