Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Barshaman Pun has said that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year is a weak budget brought by a strong government. He said this while participating in a general discussion on the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS in the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday.
Stating that the budget presented by the government of about two-thirds of the parliament mathematically did not work hard, he argued that the budget was weak despite the commitment to amend the constitution, political stability, tighten service delivery and improve the economy while the present government was being formed.
He opined that it would be effective only if the budget is brought in an integrated manner by focusing on the agenda with slogans, packaging and branding the budget. Pun, who is also the deputy general secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), said the finance minister’s hard work had not been done in the preparation of the budget.
“The current government is the first largest party and the second largest party and mathematically about two-thirds of the parliament. When the two-thirds government was being formed, they had promised that we would amend the constitution, stabilize it if there is political instability, go strictly on service delivery and make some improvements in the economy. This is the budget against this background. This budget has come as a weak budget of a strong government. The government is strong, the budget is weak. Looking at the budget, the focus was on where the agenda was focused on issues with slogans, packaging the budget, branding it. On the one hand, the finance minister’s hard work was not seen, and at the same time, the hard work that the two big parties should have done was not there. ”
He argued that the upcoming budget was seen as a regular budget made by the administrative level and not with hard work by the political leadership.
