Agency. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must step down, his predecessor Naftali Bennett said in a television interview.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 12, former Prime Minister Bennett said, “Netanyahu has been in power for 20 years, which is a long time and his tenure is not clean.” He said, “Netanyahu’s leadership for Israel must end now.”
In 2021, Netanyahu, who had been prime minister for 12 consecutive years, was removed from office by forming a coalition with Netanyahu’s critics. But the fragile coalition government led by Bennett with current opposition leader Yair Lapid collapsed after about a year.
After the subsequent midterm elections, Netanyahu was re-elected prime minister with the support of far-right and conservative Jewish parties.
