Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City has started a residential home insurance program in Wards 3 and 7. Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Prashant Bista handed over the insurance certificates to the insured and started the residential insurance from Wednesday.
Deputy Mayor Bista said that the residential home insurance program is aimed at financially empowering disaster-prone families. He informed that the residential insurance program has been launched targeting low-income families so that the family does not suffer further after the disaster.
‘This can provide great relief from the risks that may arise from earthquakes, floods, inundations, and fires,’ he said. In the first phase of this program, which was launched to reduce disaster risk, 151 out of about 750 houses in two wards will be included. Of the two wards, 109 houses in Nepalgunj-3 and 42 houses in Nepalgunj-7 have been covered. We have already prepared the Disaster Risk Management Procedure 2080. This will work to reduce the pain after the disaster,’ said Mayor Bista.
Sub-metropolitan Disaster Management Committee Coordinator Samir Pratap Singh said that disaster accident insurance and housing insurance programs have been taken forward in wards in risk-affected areas. He informed that arrangements have been made for residential home insurance that the sub-metropolitan city will pay the premium for insurance up to 1.5 million rupees and the individual himself will have to pay the premium for insurance above 1.5 million rupees.
584 premiums are required for insurance of 1.5 million rupees. For that, collaboration has been made with the National Insurance Company. National Insurance Company Nepalgunj Manager Navin Sharma Poudel informed that separate insurance will be provided in case of death, injury or damage to the insured house.
The risk of disaster is high in Wards 3 and 7 of the municipality due to the high density of residential houses, narrow roads and old settlements. The Sub-metropolitan Municipality has stated that the residential house insurance program is being implemented from those places as the houses are dilapidated. The Urban Disaster and Earthquake Preparedness Project (SUPER) is in operation here.
