Nepal Rastra Bank takes action against two development banks and two finance companies

Kathmandu: The Nepal Rastra Bank has taken action against two development banks and two finance companies. The National Bank of Nepal (NBN) on Wednesday took action against Garima Bikas Bank, Karnali Development Bank, Pokhara Finance and Central Finance.

During the on-site inspection, the board of directors of Pokhara Finance did not monitor the institution itself or through its committees adequately, which led to the institution reaching a problem-oriented state. The bank has stated that the board of directors of the institution has been alerted in this regard in accordance with clause (a) of sub-section (2) of Section 100 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058.

During the on-site inspection, it was found that the institution had provided personal overdraft loans to blacklisted borrowers, and therefore Garima Bikas Bank has been alerted in accordance with clause (a) of sub-section (1) of Section 100 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058. .

Since Karnali Development Bank is significantly unable to repay the depositors’ savings amount through the letter dated 2081 Poush 9, the decision of the Board of Directors of the institution has been informed to this bank in accordance with Section 86A of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 BS and requested for remedial action and assistance. Accordingly, as per the decision of the Board of Directors of this bank, the institution has been declared problematic in accordance with Section 86B of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 BS and the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the institution have been suspended in accordance with the provisions of Sub-section (2) of Section 86C of the same Act and the operation and management of the institution has been taken under the control of the management group formed by this bank in accordance with Sub-section (1) of Section 86C of the same Act.

Central Finance, for not maintaining the required balance as per the regulatory provisions during the period from 2081 Mangsir 08 to 2081 Poush 13, was fined Rs. 9,106.09 for the first time as per the provisions of Section 47 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 BS and Sub-points 3, 4 and 5 of Point No. 1 of IPRA Directive No. 13/080 issued by this bank and Point No. 7 of IPRA Directive No. 21/80 (including amendments).
