Gandaki. Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey, has said that the relations between Nepal and India are based on true friendship and partnership. At a special function organized by the Indian Pension Distribution Office Pokhara here today on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day, he expressed his belief that mutual trust, respect and cooperation will further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
Chief Minister Pandey expressed his gratitude for the direct and indirect support received from the Indian government and its subordinate bodies in the fields of education, health, religious, cultural and other areas within Gandaki Province. Noting that a large number of Nepalese soldiers are from Gandaki Province in the Indian Army, Chief Minister Pandey said that the Pension Distribution Office located here has moved forward as an important institution in this area. Stating that mutual proximity and family ties have brought the two countries closer, he mentioned that due to the open border between the two countries, cooperation is being exchanged in the fields of employment, tourism promotion, education, health, among others.
Noting that the cultural and historical relations between the two countries date back thousands of years, the Chief Minister said that these issues have also been mentioned in the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Prashant Singh Baghel, Chief of the Indian Pension Distribution Office, Pokhara, said that Gurkha soldiers are famous in the world for their bravery, loyalty and devotion to duty, and the office has always given high priority to the necessary services and facilities for the families of soldiers, both during and after their retirement.
Noting that the largest number of Gurkha soldiers from Nepal in the history of the Indian Army came from various districts of Gandaki Province, Baghel said that the bravery and honesty shown by them is commendable.
Says that the Pension Distribution Office, Pokhara, has supported education, health and other welfare schemes in 2024, and in addition, he informed that only 35 billion rupees will be sent to the pension of the former soldiers of the province. He mentioned that the Indian government has been implementing many positive and effective schemes for the former soldiers in Nepal.
According to the Chief of Office Baghel, the Indian government has been continuously supporting Nepal in the areas of education, health, ambulances, school buses, drinking water, electricity, bravery energy, etc. The ‘Journal Bhupu 2025’ published by the Nepal-Bharatiya Gurkha Soldiers Board was launched at the program. On that occasion, various cultural programs were held, as well as honoring the descendants of the immortal Gurkha soldiers and awarding students.
