As Pakistan continues to become unstable, there is an increased risk of impacting trade relations between Nepal and Pakistan. If we look at the data of the Customs Department, the data from Shrawan to Chait mid-March of the current fiscal year 2081/82 shows that trade relations between Nepal and Pakistan are high.
In particular, it seems that spices, shampoos and medicines have been imported from Pakistan to Nepal. According to the data, Nepal has imported goods worth 254.7 million rupees from Pakistan until Chait, while it has exported only 62.2 million rupees. This shows a trade deficit of Rs 192.4 million.
Nepal imports various goods such as spices, medicinal herbs, medicines, cosmetics and chemicals from Pakistan. Spices are the most imported item. Nepal has imported spices worth Rs 53.8 million during this period. Similarly, Nepal has imported medicinal herbs worth Rs 24.6 million and face cream worth Rs 14 million from Pakistan.
Among medicines, antibiotics and hormones, sodium bicarbonate is also imported from Pakistan in significant quantities to Nepal. Items such as black salt, cigarettes, soap and plastic items are also on the import list.
The risk of shortages of these items has increased as the war has continued for a long time due to the lack of supplies from Pakistan. According to Pakistani media, the airspace of major cities such as Lahore and Karachi has been closed. This includes major airports, including Islamabad International Airport.
Air traffic in the region has been severely affected, and according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24, some planes have been diverted from Pakistan. In a statement posted on social media, the website said that Finnair, Emirates, Turkish Cargo and Saudi Arabian flights were diverted.
In a statement, Air France said it had canceled flights over Pakistan until further notice.
