Kathmandu. The ‘UnionPay Nepal Fintech Festival-2025’ program has concluded. The Fintech Festival, organized in collaboration with Kathmandu Fintech and Fintech Alliance Nepal with the aim of developing international-level Fintech in Nepal, was held in Kathmandu last Thursday.
The organizing organizations say that this program has succeeded in placing Nepal on the global Fintech platform. The program was attended by about 400 representatives from Nepal and international financial institutions, technology companies, regulatory bodies and Fintech leaders.
The concept of the Nepal Fintech Festival was brought by Sanjeev Subba, founder of Kathmandu Fintech. The aim was to stimulate strategic dialogue, showcase the latest technologies, and accelerate the digital transformation of the financial sector in Nepal, thereby establishing a strong presence for Nepal’s fintech on the global stage.
“The main objective of the event is to place Nepal on the global fintech map. Nepal is the second country in South Asia, after India, to host such a large national fintech event,” he said. The organizing organizations say that the program achieved its objectives.
The program was addressed by Nileshman Singh Pradhan, CEO of Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL), Pradyumna Pokharel, CEO of Muktinath Bikas Bank, and Surendra Raj Regmi, Vice President of Nepal Bankers Association.
In the program, the outgoing Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, was jointly honored by Fintech Alliance Nepal and Kathmandu Fintech for his contribution to the development of digital payments.
Similarly, Neil Cross, former Chief Innovation Officer of DBS Bank in Singapore, was honored for his successful digital and gave his opinion on cultural transformation. Binghan Hu, Head of UnionPay South Asia Branch, gave a keynote speech. In addition, he has also completed a ‘Card Issuance’ agreement with Nepal Investment Mega Bank Limited.
Similarly, the program featured panel discussions on digital banking, partnership strategies, the latest fintechs after the QR system, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in financial services. Similarly, Deepak Sharma, Board Member of Suryodaya Small Finance Bank in India and former CDO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, gave a presentation on the development of digital banking in India.
The program was addressed by NMB CEO Govinda Ghimire, Nabil Bank Acting CEO Manoj Ghimire, Muktinath Bikash Bank CEO Pradyuman Pokharel, and Global IME Bank Deputy Chief Suman Pokharel.
The program also featured technology exhibition booths, live demos of innovations, and networking sessions. It is said to have provided a platform for participants to connect with each other on collaboration and innovation.
The organizers say that Nepal Fintech Festival-2025 has taken Nepal forward in the direction of making it a leading center for South Asian fintech dialogue. The event was sponsored by Nepal Clearing House.
The event was organized by Global Fintech Alliance, Asia Fintech Alliance, Global Fintech. Similarly, it was supported by international organizations including Fintech Convergence Council, International Digital Economies Association, Indian Financial Forum and PSP Association.
