Nepal Economics Olympiad 2025 concluded, winners to compete in international competitions

Kathmandu. Nepal Economics Olympiad 2025 concluded on Sunday. The sixth edition of the competition organized by the Young Economist Society Nepal every year was held this year under the name ‘Savita Group Holdings Nepal Economics Olympiad 2025’.

100 students selected from 187 educational institutions across the country competed in the Olympiad held at King’s College in Kathmandu from Falgun 16 to 18. The winners of the competition were selected on the basis of their ability to solve economic problems, financial analysis and logical thinking.

In a program held at the Nepal Tourism Board Bhrikutimandap, Ishan Shekhar Khadka from Budhanilkantha School, Awaz Simkhada, Sameep Yadav, Roshan Sedhai from Trinity International College and Vigyan Adhikari from Rato Bangla won gold medals. They have got the opportunity to represent Nepal in the ‘International Economics Olympiad’ to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in July 2025.

The gold medal winners were presented with medals and certificates by former members of the National Planning Commission and economist Dr. Vishwa Poudel. Poudel said that the competition will open doors of opportunities for students at the national and international levels, and it is an important platform for future policymakers.

Similarly, Raghubir Shrestha of St. Xavier’s College, Shivam Mishra of Hetauda School of Management, Nitika Awasthi of Sudurpaschimanchal Academy, Akshat Karla of Xavier International College and Shubham Bajgain of Premier International College have won silver medals.

The silver medal winners will represent Nepal in the international competition jointly organized by the University of New South Wales and the Australian Economics Olympiad in Sydney, Australia. They will be felicitated by Dr. Gunakar Bhatta presented medals and certificates.

The best winners of the Business Case Analysis category in the competition were honored with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. In this phase, the students presented their analysis on the feasibility study of a metro rail in Kathmandu.

During the Olympiad, financial literacy trainers accredited by the National Bank provided orientation on financial literacy. In addition, members of the National Planning Commission conducted special lectures on economics and informative sessions on national and international scholarships.

Deepak Bhandari, Partnership Director of Nepal Economics Olympiad, said that the competition is an important platform that not only provides competitive opportunities to students but also contributes to their financial literacy, analytical skills and policy making.
