Kathmandu. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey said that Nepal Airlines Corporation is weakening day by day. Speaking at the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee under the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Minister Pandey said this.
He expressed dissatisfaction that Nepal Airlines Corporation, although the only national flag carrier of Nepal, has not been able to show its capacity in good air flights. He said, “The corporation’s inability to operate both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft indicates its incompetence.” Minister Pandey said that the national flag carrier has not been able to intervene in the role of expanding Nepal’s air flights and making air tickets affordable.
He informed that Nepal Airlines Corporation has not been able to control and regulate air fares.
He said that the government has repeatedly discussed with Nepal Airlines on the issue of strengthening the corporation. He said that since the purchase of aircraft in the corporation, various disputes have been investigated and transparency should be shown in the modalities of operating the airline corporation and ticket sales and distribution. He said that the ministry had last given the airline corporation one month to submit an action plan for reform. He mentioned that the corporation’s leadership has also been asked to submit improvements after looking at the improvement plan.
