Kathmandu. The government is set to implement national priority projects while ensuring environmental protection of national parks and protected forest areas.
President Ram Chandra Poudel, while presenting the government’s policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year in a joint meeting of the Federal Parliament today, mentioned that the process of converting national forests into commercial concession forests will be made simple and easy by strengthening federal-provincial coordination.
He said, ‘Forest resources will be utilized properly by promoting forests based on sustainable forest management. Emphasis will be placed on increasing forest product production, internal supply, employment creation, and import substitution. Forest-based resources will be utilized appropriately by strengthening the management of community forests.’
The President’s Chure Terai-Madhes Conservation Project will be restructured
Similarly, the master plan for Chure conservation is to be reviewed. The policy and program states that the President’s Chure Terai-Madhes Conservation Project will be restructured and taken forward as the National Chure Conservation Project.
President Poudel said today that attention will be paid to water conservation, soil erosion control, and restoration of damaged land through integrated watershed management.
The government has stated that the relief system will be integrated with the insurance system while minimizing human-wildlife conflict. ‘Human-nature coexistence will be maintained in the conservation area,’ President Poudel said. ‘The environmental study and assessment process will be simplified. An air quality action plan will be implemented. Euro-6 standards will be implemented on vehicles running on petroleum products.’
Similarly, access to climate-related international financial mechanisms will be increased, the policy and program states. A climate finance mobilization strategy and carbon trading regulations will be formulated.
