Nawalparasi. The physical progress of narayangadh-Butwal road construction project has reached 66.50 percent. Information Officer of the event, Shiva Khanal, said that out of the total length of 113.53 kilometers of Narayangadh-Butwal road, 90.87 kilometers have been blacktopped unilaterally. Overall physical progress has reached 66.50 percent.
Apart from the area covered by the bridges, 110.46 km will have to be blacktopped. Information Officer Khanal said the bridge covers an area of 3.07 km. Currently, vehicles travelling on this section can travel on 93.94 km of blacktopped roads, he added. Information Officer Khanal said that 83 percent of the total length can be traveled on the blacktopped road.
According to him, most of the remaining areas to be worked on this section are in the daunne section. Accordingly, the work has been focused on the daunne section. The construction of the culvert in Daunne area has reached the final stage and the work of slope of the road is also going on in that section. Work is underway as per the plan to ease the journey of Daunne section as soon as possible.
China State Construction Corporation Pvt. Ltd. had started the work of narayangadh-Butwal road expansion project on August 15, 2019. A total of 113 kilometers of Narayangadh-Butwal road was divided into two sections.
The deadline was extended for the second time till July 15, 2018 as the work was not completed within the stipulated time. The deadline has been extended for the third time till July 15, 2019 as the work has not been completed even during this period.
A total of Rs 16.99 billion has been spent on both the sections of the road expansion project, which has been forwarded with the loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Out of the 113 kilometers of roads, 70 kilometers will have four lanes, 29 kilometers will have four lanes and six meters service lanes on both sides. Daunne will have a 14-km three-lane road.
The passengers have been suffering for a long time due to lack of timely completion of important highway expansion projects. Now the work has gained momentum and there is some ease in travel. But the problem is still the same. Even when there is normal rainfall in the area, the road is slippery and has to be blocked for hours.
