Nabil Bank to celebrate week-long Nabil ‘Green Week’, programs to run from Asad 15 to 21

Kathmandu. Nabil Bank’s ‘Nabil Sustainable Banking’ has entered its fifth year. The bank has announced that it will be celebrating ‘Nabil Green Week’ from 15th to 21st of Ashad on the occasion of its fourth anniversary.

Nabil Green Week will organize a program focused on sustainability with the participation of representatives from various sectors.

The webinar series organized under the Nabil Green Week, which will be conducted throughout the week, will include experts from Nabil Bank, representatives from GIZ Nepal, Simple Energy Pvt. Ltd., BYD, CG Motors, as well as experts related to environment, society and good governance and experts from the agricultural sector.

The program will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to interact with each other through discussions and knowledge exchange on solar rooftop solutions, electric vehicles and sustainable agriculture, as well as investments in environment, society and governance. The aim is to connect.

Nabil Bank has been adopting principles related to environment, society and good governance in its transactions, embracing Nepal’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The bank says that sustainability has become a key pillar in the bank’s strategy.

Nabil Bank has not limited itself to banking but has also focused on environmental protection, social inclusion, protection of human rights and ethical good governance practices. In which it has been focusing on reducing carbon footprint, promoting responsible investment and expanding financial literacy. The bank has stated that it has been working on creating long-term social and environmental value along with economic growth.

Here are the achievements of sustainable banking

Nabil Bank has achieved various achievements through sustainable banking. So far, it has contributed to the reduction of 11,172 tons of emissions through renewable energy investments in the area of greenhouse gas emissions, as per the standards of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financing. The bank has also invested in 43 hydropower projects with a capacity of 3,070 MW operating on 37 rivers in 21 districts.

Similarly, it has invested in small and medium enterprises, especially in agriculture, electric vehicles and women-led enterprises, directly and indirectly benefiting more than 46,000 people. Until the last fiscal year, the bank has invested Rs 45.38 billion in the agriculture sector alone, Rs 31 billion in hydropower and energy, and Rs 25.01 billion in micro, cottage and small industries.

According to the bank, it has invested 42.36 percent in electric vehicle loans alone, while Rs 54.3 million has been invested under corporate social responsibility. Currently, renewable energy systems have been installed in 13 branches and buildings of the bank, and the bank says that the number of NBank users has reached 1,68,826, showing its activeness in promoting digital banking. The bank has so far provided financial literacy training to 7,590 people.

The bank has been working with various stakeholder groups through campaigns such as Women in Motion, You Matter Your Voice Matters, Nabil Green Week, Ghar Ta Nepal and Digo Paila. In addition, under social responsibility, 901 trainees have been trained so far from the Nabil School of Social Entrepreneurship (Nabil SEE) program, while 133 have established enterprises and employed 1,200 people.

Under sustainable banking, the bank became a member of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting in 2021. According to the bank, the main achievement of sustainable banking is the expansion of branchless banking. Similarly, the bank has introduced innovative, social and environmentally friendly products such as Nabil Skilled Migrant Entrepreneurship Loan, Nabil Sustainable Savings Account, Nabil Kisan Loan and Nabil Udyamshil Loan targeting those who have returned from foreign employment.

Similarly, the bank has invested in projects including renewable energy, energy efficiency improvement, water conservation and treatment, waste management and energy generation from waste. The bank has installed a rainwater harvesting system at its central office and has been collecting 262,804 liters of water annually.

To support the sustainable development goals adopted by the Government of Nepal, Nabil Bank launched Nabil Sustainable Banking on Paddy Day, 2078 Ashar 15, 2078.
