Kathmandu. Nabil Bank on Monday concluded the ‘Women in Motion-Accelerate Action’ program in Kathmandu. Nabil Bank organized the program with the objective of women empowerment, capacity building, inclusion, gender equality and awareness raising.

The program was inaugurated by the bank’s independent director, Sarita Bhatta Adhikari. Nabil Bank Chairman Upendra Prasad Poudel said that the bank is committed to empowering women, building their capacity and providing opportunities.

He said that even though there are some difficulties for women in the banking sector, there is no option but to move forward by solving them. ‘We are committed to maintaining gender equality, if gender inclusion is maintained, it will have a positive impact on all sectors,’ said Chairman Poudel.

Poudel said that even looking at the history of the world, women have been paid less than men, and that this is changing recently.

‘Even now, incidents of violence against women are happening in the workplace, there are some challenges, Nepal has identified these problems and moved forward on the path of solutions,’ he said, ‘Nabil Bank is also positive about bringing women to high leadership positions, giving them a decisive role and creating opportunities.’

He emphasized the need to remove the remnants of inequality that have existed in society for a long time, understanding the importance of women’s participation in economic development. On the occasion, Manoj Gyawali, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Nabil Bank, emphasized the need to increase women’s leadership in the banking sector.

He stated that women are still underrepresented in leadership positions in the banking sector and expressed confidence that such programs would play an important role in increasing women’s participation and motivation.

Gyawali said, ‘It is necessary to increase women’s participation in managerial leadership in the banking sector. Women’s thinking is different from men’s. I have found that they are more focused on work and are also factual.’

Mentioning that women are more capable than men in the field of good governance, Gyawali said that the number of women who are dismissed from banks for bad work is negligible. He said that Nabil Bank has been able to maintain a significant number of women in its employees.

“It is not easy for women to walk with men, they have to be busy with work from home to office and have to get stuck in the middle due to various responsibilities,” he said, “That is why women have not been represented as expected in every field, so it is necessary to increase women’s participation to create an inclusive workplace.”

He said that they have been emphasizing gender equality rather than talking about women. The chief guest of the program and President of Nepal Super League, Asharata Karki Chaudhary, said that the program organized by Nabil Bank was an important initiative in achieving the goal of maintaining gender equality.

‘Nabil Bank has made a great contribution to the country’s macro-economic development by investing in women’s empowerment and making the workplace inclusive,’ she said. ‘I have found that women have played a major role in bringing Nabil to where it is today.’

Stating that the role of men is important in women’s empowerment, she urged everyone to support women in their homes, workplaces and societies. ‘To build a sustainable future for women in sports, banking or any other field, opportunities alone are not enough, for this a change in culture is also necessary. We must invest in girls from a young age, we must encourage them to follow their passions without fear,’ she said.

Women’s participation will have a great impact, not only in terms of skills and expertise, but also in terms of new perspectives, thinking and collaboration, she said. She said that it is impossible to walk alone in a male-dominated society and that networking and collaboration are necessary to achieve goals.

During the group discussion titled ‘The Sea-Shift: Navigating Barriers and Catalyzing Leadership’ at the program, the speakers emphasized that women can and are qualified to take leadership in various fields.

During the discussion, environmental activists Silsila Acharya, Rosi Kattel and Dr. Ramji Ram shared their views on areas including women’s participation, empowerment and opportunity creation, while Kantipur’s Senior Deputy Editor Yagya Banjade played the role of moderator.
