Mustang. A Chyangra farm has been operated through a local consumer committee in Loghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality-1, Charang. The farm is developing as a center for breeding improvement of Chyangra as well as animal development programs and research.
The farm, which is operated for breeding improvement of Chyangra, production of offspring and production of pashmina, has 600 Chyangra including offspring. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has established a resource center for breeding improvement of Chyangra, production of pashmina, and breeding improvement under the Himalayan Project with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The center, which was abandoned some time after the Himalayan Project established the resource center, has been taken over by local consumers. The National Livestock Resource Management and Promotion Center has arranged for one farm manager, five shepherds, and one animal technician.
The government has arranged for the center’s human resources management, including salaries and allowances, as well as the equipment needed for the cyangra, including feed, grass, and medicine. Animal technician Dheeraj Baruwal said that the necessary physical infrastructure has been built to establish an office for the center, which is spread over an area of eight ropanis, and to build a farm.
The offspring are being raised on the farm, which was established with an emphasis on improving the cyangra breeding by bringing in some local and some Tibetan cyangras and emphasizing pashmina production and promotion. More than 150 cyangra offspring are produced at the center every year.
