MPs demand to create an environment for teachers to return to school

Kathmandu. The lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention to creating an environment for the protesting teachers in Kathmandu to return to school. Speaking during the emergency session of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, they said that it is unfortunate that the peaceful demonstration of teachers has turned into a clash and that the indecent behavior towards teachers should be stopped.

The lawmakers have also demanded that the government create an environment for the teachers to return to school by enacting the School Education Act. The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) said that the government should show readiness to address the demands of teachers.

He strongly condemned the incident in which dozens of teachers were injured by police using water cannons and batons during a peaceful protest by teachers on Sunday, and stressed that the state should enact a law to fulfill the legitimate demands of teachers.

He also demanded the implementation of the agreement reached between the government and teachers in the past. Maoist Tshering Damdul Lama (Vote) said that the recent floods in Humla have caused great damage in various areas of the district and demanded relief and compensation for the victims.

Rasty Swatantra Party (RSWP) MP Sumana Shrestha demanded that the government immediately fulfill the just demands of the teachers. She drew the government’s attention to creating an environment to send the teachers back to school as soon as possible, saying that the teachers’ protest was depriving children of school education. She also condemned the attack on journalists.

Rasty Prajatantra Party MP Roshan Karki said that the repression, water cannons and beatings on teachers were sad and demanded that the government fulfill the demands of the teachers. He condemned the attack on journalists during the teachers’ protest. He also demanded that the legitimate demands of the resident doctors be addressed as soon as possible.

CPN (UML) MP Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri expressed his sorrow over the incident that took place on Sunday during the teachers’ protest and demanded that the government prevent such incidents from recurring. Stating that repression from any side is not good, both the police and teachers are public servants, he drew the attention of the teachers to carry out their declared programs with restraint and the security personnel to present themselves with restraint.

He demanded that the Education Minister inform the Parliament about the progress of the School Education Act.

Aam Janata Party MP Prabhu Sah said that last night’s hailstorm along with wind and rain destroyed maize, mango and other crops in Bara, Rautahat and other districts of Madhesh Province, and that electricity and communication were affected due to fallen electricity poles, and he drew the attention of the government to provide relief to the affected farmers and to quickly resume uninterrupted services.

Independent MP Dr. Amaresh Kumar Singh He urged attention to the management reforms of the school in Basbariya, Sarlahi. MP Ranendra Barali demanded that the demands of the teachers be addressed and the discriminatory incidents against Dalits be put to an end.
