Kathmandu. Lawmakers have demanded an investigation and action against Nepal Securities Board Chairman Santosh Narayan Shrestha. Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Maoist Center and RPP lawmakers demanded an investigation and action against the board chairman.
The lawmakers have also demanded a ruling through the Speaker for an investigation through a reliable mechanism.
Maoist Center lawmaker Madhav Sapkota demanded an immediate investigation into the board chairman Shrestha by forming a reliable mechanism. He demanded an immediate investigation as he has discouraged the promoters of hydropower projects and the middlemen appear to be more powerful than the government. “The Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal (SEBON) has negotiated a commission of 5 percent with small projects and 7 percent with large projects. This is a very serious and sad matter. I would like to draw the attention of the Government of Nepal through the Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives that our party, the Maoist Center, has drawn serious attention to this matter. I demand a ruling through the Honorable Speaker to investigate this incident,” Sapkota, a Maoist Center MP, said in Parliament.
RPP MP Roshan Karki also demanded an immediate investigation and action against the Securities and Exchange Board Chairman. She also alleged that the capital market is called the mirror of the economy, but now the face of an ugly commission-taker is visible in that mirror.
‘It is said that the capital market is the mirror of the country’s economy, but now the face of an ugly commission-taker is visible in that mirror. There is an issue of the Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal (SEB) chief demanding a commission of five to seven percent for issuing IPOs. The board is not doing a good job. Millions of rupees of people’s money are being wasted. There is an issue of the chairman demanding a commission, the Prime Minister-led Good Governance Commission should immediately take action and action should be taken against the commission-taker board chairman,’ said MP Karki.
