Kathmandu. MPs have said that the role of MPs will be important in removing red tape. MPs said this at the annual report of the Auditor General and the role of Parliament organized in Kathmandu on Friday.

Rasty Prajatantra Party MP Bina Lama said that MPs should play a role in forcing the government to establish a culture of transparency and accountability based on the report.

She suggested that the report should be discussed in Parliament, not just in the Accounts Committee.

She said, “If the Auditor General is really going to facilitate the implementation of the tasks effectively, it should be brought up for discussion with MPs in Parliament, but it has not been brought up yet.” If this can be done, the work can be carried forward effectively. And another thing is that MPs can now play a role in forcing the government to establish a culture of transparency and accountability based on the report. My suggestion is that if this is discussed not only in the Public Audit Committee but also in the full house, it can be made more binding on the government.’

Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Nepal MP Ram Prakash Chaudhary said that although people think it is bad when they say it is invalid, it is not.

He said that it can be invalid in three ways and that it can be invalid even if the documents do not match, and said that the reports of the Auditor General of all constitutional bodies, ministries, unions, provinces and others have come out well.

He said, ‘As soon as it was invalid, it was said that it was gone. All constitutional commissions, organizations, ministries, federal parliament, provinces, local bodies and others have seen the Accountant General’s covenant come out well. We are limited to this. If it happens from time to time through the media, it would have an impact. And we were able to understand it. As soon as we say “irregularity”, there are three types. As soon as it is called “irregularity”, we were able to understand that it has to be recovered, and some documents are also invalidated even if they are not matched.’

National Assembly member Sumitra BC asked how much is left to recover the irregularity and how long does it have to be recovered?

She said, ‘There is a matter of recovering irregularity, it may be in the report, how long does it have to be recovered? If not, what provisions are there in the laws, laws and regulations? How long are such old claims left to be recovered? I would like to ask.’

Rajanata Samajwadi Party MP Sushila Shrestha said that the problem is that contractors run away after taking charge of the work but leaving the construction work unfinished. She stressed the need to work hard to correct the corruption that has reached the bottom.

She said, ‘I have also seen situations where contractors run away without doing the work in the villages. Therefore, how can this continue when the development partners and contractors run away and are unable to do the work, then they bid on the contract and are unable to do it. Another thing is that the issue of corruption has reached the bottom, and I think we should work out a little to correct it with intention. The budget is being prepared now. During the budget preparation, there is a lot of discussion in our House but nothing is improved. Why discuss the budget for months?’

The National Assembly members had drawn the attention of all bodies to the irregularities and corruption that were seen in the Auditor General’s report, which was being carried out in every village.
