Birgunj. Known as an industrial and commercial city, the general public has been plagued by the terror of mosquitoes for the past few weeks. With the onset of summer in the Birgunj metropolitan area, the general public here has been suffering a lot in the morning and evening hours due to the impact of mosquitoes.

Even though the sanitation workers were on leave during Holi, the garbage could not be collected from the inner streets of the metropolis. That is why the impact of mosquitoes has increased even more. The effect of mosquitoes is also more visible as it is the end of the winter season and the beginning of the summer season.

Parashuram Teli, who has been doing business in Mina Bazaar, Ward No. 6, Birgunj Metropolitan City, also said that despite the large number of mosquitoes seen in Birgunj, the Birgunj Metropolitan City has neglected to spray mosquito repellent.

‘You can’t sit outside in the evening and morning,’ he said, ‘What is the metropolis doing even when mosquitoes are so troublesome?’ Not only Teli, Rakesh Jha of Birta, Ward No. 4, Birgunj Metropolitan City also complains of being plagued by mosquitoes.

‘One is that the drains of Birgunj are open. Due to which the mosquito menace has increased a lot,’ he said, ‘The mayor says he will make Birgunj clean and green. It has become a mosquito-ridden place here.’ Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease.

The disease is transmitted by female mosquitoes infected with the dengue virus. Mosquitoes that transmit the disease are found more in urban areas than in rural areas. Birgunj Metropolitan City’s Sanitation Management Branch Chief Sarfudin Mian informed that a mosquito killing campaign will be launched in all 32 wards of Birgunj from Sunday by making a schedule to kill mosquitoes.

‘We have made a schedule in all wards from ward no. 1 to 32 to control the increasing mosquito outbreak with the onset of summer and the spread of deadly diseases such as dengue, malaria and encephalitis,’ he said. ‘The metropolis has planned a program to kill mosquito larvae by spraying larvae three times from morning to evening in drains and air spraying twice from evening to night to kill adult mosquitoes.’

However, Birgunj Metropolitan City had also made public the schedule of the pump and air spray program for mosquito control starting from Chaitra 3 on Falgun 25. It is said that this campaign will continue from Sunday to Chaitra 24.
