The flood situation in Assam is still serious. A total of 515,039 people have been affected by floods in 22 districts. One person has been killed and two are reported missing. On Sunday, 10 people died in the state.
On Saturday, three people were killed in floods triggered by heavy rains. Five people were killed in the landslide. So far, 19 people have lost their lives in the state. Two people have been reported missing. Officials said 1,254 villages in the affected districts have been inundated and 12,610.27 hectares of crop area has been damaged.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the local government has opened 165 relief camps and 157 relief distribution centers in the affected areas.
The Regional Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Guwahati has predicted moderate rainfall at many places in Assam. The floods have damaged embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers and their tributaries, except Dhaleshwari and Katkhal, are flowing above the danger mark. For the past four days, torrential rains have wreaked havoc in the northeastern states of India and triggered landslides and flash floods. More than 40 people have died.
