Tanahun. 10,126 foreign tourists have visited Bandipur, the district’s main tourist destination, in the last three months.
According to the statistics of the Bandipur Tourism Police, Bandipur Cable Car and the Hotel Association Bandipur Market Unit, the number of tourists who visited the city from last Mangsir to mid-Magh.
Head of the Tourism Police, Police Assistant Inspector Rudra Bahadur Jhankri, said that 5,793 people have registered their names with the police for records. Similarly, Cable Car General Manager Romanman Shrestha said the number of foreign tourists coming using the cable car is 2,352.
Similarly, according to Regional Hotel Association Bandipur President Fulmati Thapa, an additional 1,981 foreign tourists have reached Bandipur, who registered their names outside of duty with the Tourism Police, but according to statistics from various hotels.
Between major tourist destinations Kathmandu and Pokhara and Chitwan and Pokhara, foreign tourists come to Bandipur to see its natural beauty and ancient art and culture.
The largest number of foreign tourists coming to Bandipur are from China. 1,500 tourists have come from China in the month of Magh alone. Then there are tourists from Germany, Spain, Italy, France, America and the Netherlands.
Beautiful mountains, various streams, rivers and fields are easily visible from Bandipur. Tourists are also eager to see the houses filled with ancient wooden crafts here.
The Bandipur Rural Municipality and other stakeholders are declaring 2025 as the Bandipur Visit Year and are carrying out various tourism activities. The rural municipality has stated that various tourism activities will be carried out to attract domestic and foreign tourists throughout 2025.
Rural Municipality Chairman Surendra Bahadur Thapa said that there is a plan to attract 100,000 external and 200,000 internal tourists in 2025. Similarly, he informed that various programs will be planned with a plan to attract eight hundred thousand tourists by 2025 and 2027.
Baish Bahadur Gurung, coordinator of the Bandipur Visit Year, informed that a special program targeting tourists was organized here today on the occasion of February 14.
Phulmati Thapa, president of the Bandipur unit of the Regional Hotel Association, said that the number of domestic tourists has also increased recently. She informed that about five hundred domestic tourists have been visiting here daily in recent times.
It is known as a tourist center with ancient archaeological importance, Bandipur Bazaar, Tundikhel Martyrs’ Memorial, Thanimai Temple, Khadgamai Temple, Bindavasini Temple, Manimukundeshwari Trek (Mini Great Wall), Raniban, Tindhara, Picnic Sports, Gumba, Ramkot, Dharampani, Korikha’s ‘Homestay’, National Goat Research Center, Sericulture, Beekeeping and Insect Development Program for Mushroom Production.
The various cultural costumes and customs of castes including Newari, Magar, Gurung are also attractions here. From Bandipur, you can see the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Manaslu and other mountain ranges. Since the long range of mountains can be seen in a single ‘frame’, domestic and foreign tourists enjoy it here.
Hotel development is also ongoing here targeting tourists. About 80 hotels and a dozen homestays affiliated with the Bandipur Hotel Association are in operation.
After moving one kilometer from Dumre Bazaar in Tanahun along the Prithvi Highway, you can reach Bandipur Bazaar by traveling eight kilometers from Bandipur Gate. Currently, a cable car is also in operation from Thuldhunga here to Baralthok. It has become more convenient for tourists as Bandipur can be reached in seven minutes by cable car.
