Kathmandu. Monsoon has entered Nepal 15 days faster than the average date. Issuing a press release today, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that this year’s monsoon has entered from the east of Nepal from Thursday night and has expanded to most parts of Koshi Province.
According to the Department, light to moderate monsoon rainfall has occurred at most of the weather stations of Koshi state due to the monsoon. Director General at the Department, Kamal Ram Joshi, said that although the average date for the arrival of monsoon in Nepal is June 13, the monsoon has arrived in Nepal on May 29.
“It is likely to take some more time for the monsoon to extend its impact on other fires in Nepal. At present, the influence of westerly wind and local winds is still visible on the country’s boki ground fire,” he said. The Meteorological Forecasting Division is constantly monitoring the weather conditions and will update the weather information regularly accordingly, joshi said.
The Department has predicted more rainfall than the average in the upcoming monsoon. According to the air water assessment for the upcoming monsoon released today, most parts of the country are likely to receive more rainfall than the average during the four-month monsoon season from May 18 to October 14.
“Most parts of the country are likely to receive more rainfall this season. “The eastern region of Karnali Province, northern region of Lumbini Province and most parts of Gandaki Province are likely to receive more than 55 per cent to 65 per cent rainfall,” he said, adding that the southern region of Sudurpaschim Province, western region of Lumbini Province, North Eastern region of Gandaki Province, Northern Region of Bagmati Province and Koshi Province are likely to receive more than 45 percent to 55 percent rainfall. ‘
Similarly, there is a 35 per cent to 45 per cent chance of rainfall in the eastern and southern regions of madhes province, while the chances of rainfall are 35 per cent to 45 per cent in the rest of the country, joshi said.
