Monitoring of assistance provided to flood and landslide affected areas in Kavre by Chamber and UNDP

Kathmandu. A joint monitoring has been conducted on the reconstruction and livelihood support provided by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the areas affected by the floods and landslides that occurred in the second week of Asoj in Panauti Municipality and Roshi Rural Municipality of Kavre.

A team led by Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and Kayako Yukoshu, Resident Representative of the UNDP, conducted a joint monitoring on the progress of the implementation of the assistance grant.

A cooperation agreement was signed between the Chamber and UNDP in the month of Poush for the loss of life and property and livelihoods caused by the floods and landslides in Panauti Municipality and Roshi Rural Municipality. .

A press release issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the progress of the joint monitoring of the cash program for reconstruction in flood and landslide-affected areas and climate adaptation cooperation is being issued.

Under the cash program in the flood and landslide-affected areas, local physical infrastructure is being built by constructing irrigation canals, community roads, drains, cleaning soil, stones, wood, etc. on agricultural land.

This has also created local employment. The Chamber has mentioned that on-site monitoring has been conducted to assess the progress made in community capacity building and climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as risk reduction in natural disaster situations.

Chamber President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal informed that the work being done in the flood and landslide affected areas is satisfactory and that support and cooperation from the affected areas will continue in the coming days.

Chamber Senior Vice President Deepak Kumar Malhotra said that significant achievements have been made in infrastructure construction and livelihoods in the flood and landslide affected areas with the support of the Chamber and UNDP. UNDP Resident Representative Kayako Yukoshu expressed her happiness at being able to provide assistance to the flood-affected areas in collaboration with the Chamber.

In addition to the participation of local level people’s representatives in monitoring the progress of the assistance provided by the Chamber and UNDP, the Chief District Officer of Kavre was also informed about the progress of the work.
