Model settlement constructed in Kohalpur for underprivileged community at a cost of Rs. 4 million

Nepalgunj. Construction of a model settlement for the extremely poor community has begun in Kohalpur, Banke at a cost of Rs 4 million. The settlement has been started for the Chidimar and Khatik families living in Municipality-14 Hawaldarpur.

After the Neighborhood Service Society builds houses for the extremely poor Chidimar and Khatik community at the initiative of the municipality, they will be able to live in concrete houses after living a miserable life in huts for years. Kohalpur Municipality Mayor Purna Prasad Acharya said that eight houses have been built in the first phase under the model settlement construction program. He said that the construction of the model settlement has been started as it is the duty of the local government to raise the living standards of the poor families.

The society is going to build houses for the poor community in other places as well under the model settlement construction program. Ward Chairman of Kohalpur-14 Nam Bahadur Ale said that there are about 30 families of Chidimar and Khatik communities living in Hawaldarpur. He informed that the cost of eight houses is Rs 4 million and the local government will provide assistance for toilets, water and roads.

Social activist LB Karki informed that the construction has started and the construction will be completed by mid-Ashar. The organization will build a two-room concrete house. They, who have been living in a hut for years, are happy to get a concrete house. Molhe Khatik expressed his sorrow that despite spending as much time as possible day and night in the summer, he had to endure difficult conditions in the rainy and cold seasons.

In the first phase, houses will be built for the poor including Molhe Khatik, Jokhan Khatik, Manohar Chidimar, Radhe Chidimar, Om Prakash Chidimar, Mata Prasad Kurmi, and others.
