Kathmandu. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has said that although there were irregularities in agricultural subsidies in the past, they will now be transparent.
At a conference on investment in agriculture organized by the Agricultural Enterprise Center of the Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry, he said that since the ministry has started the process of making the details of subsidies public so far, the subsidies will be transparent in the future and all the details can be viewed.
Mentioning that Rs. 105 billion has been spent on agricultural subsidies in the past, Minister Adhikari said that the process of subsidies going directly from the ministry as in the past has now been stopped.
Minister for Agriculture Adhikari opined that efforts from all sectors are necessary for self-reliance in agriculture and only the efforts of the private sector can achieve the goals set by the state in the agricultural sector. Minister Adhikari had even formed an investigation committee in the ministry, alleging that the amount of subsidy allocated to agriculture was misused. Based on the report of the committee, it was found that an equivalent amount of subsidy was misused in agriculture.
