Kathmandu. Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav and Minister for Jal Shakti of the Government of India CR Patil today signed an agreement on the development of the drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (housing) sector.
A special program organized in the capital of India, New Delhi, Minister Yadav on behalf of the Government of Nepal and Minister for Jal Shakti CR Patil on behalf of the Government of India signed an important agreement on the development of the drinking water, sanitation and hygiene sector, informed E Ram Kumar Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management.
He said, “The agreement has been signed between the Government of India and Nepal to expand cooperation in the drinking water, sanitation and waste management sector.” The MoU aims to develop drinking water resources, access to clean water, promote sanitation, waste management and strengthen the efforts of the Government of Nepal.’
The objective is to promote friendly cooperation between both countries, India and Nepal, and strengthen inter-governmental cooperation in the field of sanitation, acknowledging the efforts and concerns of the Government of Nepal regarding water security, ensuring access to safe drinking water in Nepal and enabling people to earn their livelihood in a safe environment.
The MoU mentions that there will be groundwater management, technology and information exchange, rainwater harvesting and measurement, technology sharing, and technical and training assistance to the Government of Nepal.
The program was attended by Nepali Ambassador to India Shankar Prasad Sharma, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, Secretaries of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India Ashok Meena and Devashree Murkhaji, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Nepali Embassy Dr Surendra Thapa, Secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water E Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, Joint Secretary E Meena Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management E Ram Kumar Shrestha and others are participating. Minister Yadav is scheduled to return home tomorrow, Tuesday.
