Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has directed to construct the Sunkoshi Marine Multipurpose ‘Diversion’ Project on time.

While taking information about the ‘current contract implementation status, problems and challenges’ of the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multipurpose Project today, Minister Khadka has directed the parties involved in the construction to find solutions to complete the national pride project at the earliest.

‘The Prime Minister has repeatedly expressed interest in the Sunkoshi Marine, it is necessary to find a solution to construct this project on time,’ he said. He said that the development has been delayed due to the tendency of the same construction contractor to take up multiple projects and not complete the work on time.

Minister Khadka said that it is a matter of regret that even the Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project, which is under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, should be completed in four years, but only 60 percent progress has been made in six years. Ministry Secretary Sarita Dawadi said that the progress of the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multipurpose Project has been low.

‘Despite repeated inquiries by the department and the ministry team about the progress of the project, there has been no progress as expected,’ he said. Director General of the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation, Sanjeev Baral, said that the delay in the construction of the project was due to the failure of the contractors involved in the construction to fulfill their commitments.
