Palpa. Deputy General Secretary of the Maoist Center, Barshaman Pun Ananta, has demanded from the government to form a parliamentary or high-level investigation committee to investigate the alleged irregularities involving the leaders of the Congress, UML and Maoist Center.
Inaugurating the third session of the Riptikot Village Committee of the Maoist Center, Palpa, on Wednesday, Pun demanded the formation of a committee to investigate the cases that have come to light recently. He said that Prime Minister KP Oli has brought the Shera Durbar issue into the spotlight with the intention of making him a subject of controversy after dozens of irregularities and corruption allegations were made against him. He informed that on Friday, ‘
Addressing the first meeting of the winter session of the federal parliament, Prachanda will speak demanding an investigation into Shera Durbar.
‘Oliji is talking about Shera Durbar, whether Maoist leaders are also connected somewhere, whether they can be intimidated. Yesterday, we fought for the republic at the risk of our lives. Our chairman is talking about starting an investigation into Shera Durbar in the parliament. He has already said in the press conference that I will put a demand in the parliament for an investigation into Shera Durbar,’ Pun said, ‘KP Oliji has a question from me and our party, are you ready to investigate the questions raised about yourself and your leaders? If you have investments in Cambodia, the question has been raised, it has been said that you have money in Swiss banks, your name has been implicated in the Giribandhu Tea Estate. You are the Prime Minister of a democratic country. What can you say, can you say that there should be a parliamentary investigation against me? We are ready.’
Pun recalled that in the past, high-level judicial commissions and parliamentary investigation committees were formed when it was necessary to investigate leaders. Prachanda said that when he was the Prime Minister, he had appealed to the investigating bodies, including the police chief, to investigate if his party leaders, cadres, family members or himself had engaged in state exploitation and corruption. However, he commented that Prime Minister Oli, under the guise of state power, has made the investigation into the cases of corruption, smuggling and state exploitation involving him, his party members and the ruling Congress leader futile and has behaved in a biased manner even when an investigation should have been conducted. “Comrade Prachanda had said that if our leaders, cadres, supporters, or even my family and I are found involved in any irregularities, smuggling, corrupt activities or state exploitation, then investigate,” Pun said. “A minister from Oli’s party tried to smuggle young people to Japan. No action was taken against him. But the young people involved in it are now facing human trafficking charges. The wife of the chairman of the accounts committee involved in cooperative fraud is hidden, produced in court on the same day, and released on bail on the same day. However, the opposition tries to take revenge on leaders in the same case.”
Pun alleged that the attempt to seek revenge by misusing state bodies and taking the judicial and prosecution process into their own hands is not democracy but arbitrariness and authoritarianism. He urged the state bodies, including the police, not to protect the ruling party and not to take revenge on the opposition, saying that the current Oli-led government does not have a long life and is in a state of decay. Pun also accused middlemen and vested interests of exploiting the state in the country. Pun said that the vested interests that used to change the office heads, secretaries and ministers have started changing the prime minister, and that broker capitalism has emerged as a challenge to the country’s future. He said that the vested interests that formed the government have recently changed the law to allow them to sell land exceeding the limit and manipulate large contracts.
He reiterated that a handful of people who were caught in the crossfire while attacking corruption, middlemen, smuggling and state exploitation brought down the Prachanda-led government. However, Pun mentioned that the good governance campaign that began under the Maoist leadership will not be stopped, no matter what the risks.
