Kathmandu. A large public demonstration has been held in the district headquarters, Phungling Bazaar, alleging that some people from outside the district are trying to obstruct the cable car under construction to provide easy access for pilgrims and tourists to the famous religious site of Pathibhara Temple in the Himalayan district of Taplejung.
The angry locals have urged the Pathibhara Devi Cable Car Company to quickly construct the cable car, saying that outsiders and unrelated people are trying to stop the development of Taplejung.
They have held a large demonstration in the district headquarters, Phungling, with various placards and banners, urging the government to create an investment-friendly environment. They have also urged people from outside the district and elsewhere to not stop the development and prosperity of Taplejung.
The huge demonstration organized by the Taplejung Development-loving Youth Society was attended by representatives of political parties in the district, public representatives, civil society and various organizations. Some people are protesting, saying that the construction of a cable car in Pathibhara will lose the historicity and identity of the temple.
Although the topic of building a cable car in Pathibhara arose four decades ago, Pathibhara Devi Darshan Cable Car Pvt. Ltd. was established in 2072. This project had obtained permission for the construction of the cable car in 2075 BS as per the decision of the Nepal Government Council of Ministers.
The construction of this project has started gaining momentum with the entry of IME Group into the Pathibhara Cable Car about two years ago. After obtaining all the necessary government and legal permissions from the Government of Nepal, the project has been included under the National Priority Plan and the project has been taken forward.
IME Group took a large share of this cable car in 2079 BS with the aim of creating tourist destinations including cable cars in all seven provinces of the country.
The company has completed the work of acquiring the necessary land for the cable car and providing the land in lieu to the Government of Nepal. The work of felling trees in the cable car alignment area and approving the DPR was completed, and the formal foundation stone for the cable car construction work was laid, and physical construction work began this month.
