Kathmandu. CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Jhakku Prasad Subedi has alleged that corruption was taking place at Tribhuvan International Airport with the direct involvement of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s secretariat.

Subedi made the allegation while speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly on Wednesday. He said that six months after the Bhutanese refugee case had brought the country’s head down, the visit visa setting case has further lowered its head.

He also said that a serious crime like human trafficking in the name of visit visa is not possible without political patronage. He alleged that the Home Minister was involved in smuggling under the guise of visit visa, but he tried to escape by blaming the employees. What kind of country did we create to extort money by selling unemployed citizens? he asked.

He claimed that human trafficking took place with the involvement of the top leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs and demanded an impartial investigation. He also said that the home minister used to make speeches differently but the conduct was not right.

“Today, the situation has made us have to speak on a different issue. A serious topic is being discussed throughout this week. Corruption is taking place at Tribhuvan Airport with the direct involvement of the Home Minister’s Secretariat. It is also said that it is not a small amount, but it is being raised up to five million rupees a day. This is the most talked about topic right now. We know that someday the Bhutanese refugee case brought the country’s head down. For at least six months, there was a debate in the country and abroad. Now again, the visit visa setting case has taken a new head. What kind of country have we created to sell unemployed citizens and extort money? This is a sad thing. Human trafficking has taken place with the involvement of the top leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs. What will be the image of our country now?”

Opposition parties have disrupted the House of Representatives demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to create an environment for fair investigation of human trafficking under the guise of visit visa.
