Many people take out health insurance services in KP Oli’s home district of Jhapa, Durga Prasai’s hospital is at the forefront of providing treatment

Jhapa. Jhapa has become the district with the highest number of participants (insured) in the health insurance program run by the Government of Nepal under the Social Security.

Laxmi Kandel, coordinator of the Health Insurance Board Liaison Office, Jhapa, said that 762,686 people are insured in Jhapa. According to the Health Insurance Board, 8967,790 people are insured across the country. After Jhapa, the districts with the most insured people are Morang (second), Sunsari (third) and Chitwan (fourth).

61,429 people are insured in Morang, 575,695 people in Sunsari and 565,710 people in Chitwan.

She informed that 69.67 percent of the total population in Jhapa is affiliated with the health insurance program. In the district with 15 municipalities, the highest number of insured people is in Damak Municipality, while the lowest number is in Jhapa Rural Municipality.

Coordinator Kandel informed that 111,080 people, or 103 percent of the population, are insured in Damak. She said that more people are insured in Damak than the population of the city because Bhutanese refugees and renters are insured.

Jhapa Rural Municipality, which has the lowest number of insured people, has 14,974 people participating in the health insurance program. Compared to the population here, the number of insured people is only 38 percent.

Similarly, 49,769 people in Arjundhara Municipality, 55,083 in Bhadrapur, 20,327 in Barhadashi Rural Municipality, 81,949 in Birtamod, 38,647 in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality and 46,931 in Gauradaha Municipality have been insured.

19,410 in Gauriganj Rural Municipality, 25,09 in Haldibari, 26,267 in Kachankawal Rural Municipality, 48,312 in Kamal Rural Municipality, 41,911 in Kankai Municipality, 78,652 in Mechinagar, 57,04 in Shivasatakshi District Coordinator Kandel informed that 109 people are insured.

She said that the number of people renewing their health insurance is also increasing as people are becoming more interested in the services they receive from health insurance in the district. She said that many citizens in the target group are insured. The insured are receiving services from 14 primary service providers in the district, including the Provincial Hospital Bhadrapur. She said that the referred insured are receiving services from B&C in Birtamod, Kankai Hospital, Omsai Pathibhara in Bhadrapur, NIMS in Damak, Amda and Damak Hospital. Insured persons are receiving services under the health insurance program from five eye hospitals in Jhapa.

She said that due to the lack of staff in the office, there is a lack of necessary coordination with municipalities and health service providers. RSS
