Kavrepalanchok. The 11-kilometer-long Malpi-Lilavati Irrigation Project culvert has been reconstructed in Panauti Nagar, Kavrepalanchok, which was damaged by the floods and landslides of the second week of Asoj. About three thousand locals donated their labor for this.

The water test was also conducted on Sunday in the culvert of the project, which was reconstructed since the second week of Kartik. Farmers from wards 4, 7 and 8 of Panauti Nagar, women’s agricultural cooperatives, various youth clubs, women’s groups, mothers’ groups, students, teachers, and others participated in the donation, which took about three months. ‘Now it is possible to irrigate the fields of Panauti,’ he said. He said that the Bagmati Province government has received 5 million rupees for the reconstruction of the irrigation canal. A labor donation campaign was launched for the cleaning of the canal. Ward Chairman Dahal said that 20 percent of the damaged structures of the project have been rebuilt and soil accumulated in the canals in 80 percent of the area has been removed.

The floods and landslides had damaged most of the irrigation project. About three weeks after the reconstruction of the canals started through the labor donation campaign, the canals up to Gate No. 1 in Malpi were repaired and brought into operation. After the reconstruction of the project, irrigation facilities have now reached about 10,000 ropanis of land in Panauti.
