Kathmandu. Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Ghanshyam Upadhyay, has said that the retirement age of civil servants and other employees should be increased to 60 years. Speaking at the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Friday, he said that if the age limit of employees is increased from 58 to 60 years, up to 60 billion rupees will be saved annually.
He said that considering the economic situation of the country, no additional posts should be created. He mentioned that adding 30 additional secretaries would increase the annual expenditure by 7 crore rupees.
He informed that it would be appropriate to reduce the tenure of secretaries and additional secretaries to make the promotion of joint secretaries timely. He suggested against creating additional positions in the personnel sector, saying that it would increase the level of decision-making and costs.
