Kathmandu. Tourists, Hindus and Indian tourists have been attracted by the construction of tourism infrastructure including the upper station of cable car and Kamakhyadevi temple on basantapur hill of Tinau, which has been deserted for decades. Lumbini Cable Car Limited has entered its third year after completing two years of its formal operation.
The cable car, which came into commercial operation from June 15, 2080, was formally inaugurated on June 15, 2080. The cable car has a lower station at Bamghat in Butwal-3 and an upper station at Basantapur of Tinau rural municipality-3 in Palpa.
According to the company, more than 350,000 tourists have travelled by cable car in the last two years. Out of the total number of tourists, the number of Indian tourists has increased sharply compared to the previous year. According to DN Kayastha Sainju, operation manager of cable car, the number of Indians has increased from 8 percent in the fiscal year 2080-81 to 21 percent in the current fiscal year. According to the company, about 50,000 Indian tourists have visited nepal in the last two years.
The number of tourists from third countries is less than one percent. Palpa: Basantapur of Palpa, which has been deserted for decades, has become buzzing after the cable car came into operation.
Located at an altitude of about 1,000 meters above sea level, the lumbini cable car’s upper station along with the famous Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Devi Temple, Jeep Line, Sky Cycling, Joint Swing (modern swing), children’s park, restaurant, seminar hall and other tourist structures have been built.
The famous Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Devi temple in Basantapur and the temple of Durga Mata, which has been worshiped for 100 years, have been rebuilt and renovated. These two temples have become a special attraction for Hindus. Suresh Poudel, the chief priest of the temple, said that devotees from different cities of Nepal and India come in large numbers due to the religious belief that the darshan of Kamakhya Devi fulfills the wishes and relieves the crisis in life.
Operation Manager Sainju said that the cable car is promoting the market by offering free travel on birthdays on the evening of 1st of every month, special discount offer to those coming in more than 50 groups and discount agreements on ticket rates with various associations and organizations.
Sainju, operation manager of the company, said basantapur has become the preferred destination for tourists as the temperature is 7 to 10 degrees Celsius less than the Tarai places, which is cool in the summer season and warm in the sun in the winter season.
He said basantapur has become the preferred destination not only for Nepalis but also for tourists of Uttar Pradesh due to religious and tourist infrastructure, favorable weather in any season, clean and peaceful environment free from market noise and pollution.
The cable car has given 50 percent discount on tickets to the residents of Palpa Tinau-3 and Butwal Ward No. 3 and one percent tax each to the two municipalities per ticket. It has also contributed well to local development.
The Lumbini cable car, built by austria’s world famous Dupelmaier Company, is 2 kilometers 600 meters long. The cable car, which has 25 gondlas, can handle up to 6,000 tourists daily.
