The section of the Prithvi Highway from Yampachowk in Bandipur Rural Municipality-5, which reaches various tourist villages (homestays) in Bandipur via Bhujel Village, Thumka, Korikha, Bahun Bhanjyang, has been upgraded along with drains.
The locals are excited after the road upgrade has ended the hardships they had to face in the past due to mud and dust and eased the operation of transport. Leela Bahadur Gurung of Bandipur-5 Korikha expressed happiness, saying that the problem of operating the homestay, which was started in 2073 BS, has now been resolved due to the road.
He said that the homestay will be operated regularly with the start of the new year. ‘Earlier, it used to take 45 minutes to reach here from the highway, but now it has become possible to reach it in 10 minutes. Due to which, we are confident that the number of guests will increase,’ Gurung said.
Tam Prasad Bhatta, a farmer from Thumka, Bandipur-5, said that it is easy to reach the highway to deliver milk daily. He said that earlier, the road used to become muddy during rains, which made it difficult to travel, but the problem has been solved with the road upgrade.
This road upgrade has been carried out under the New City Project with a budget of Rs 13.35 crore allocated by the Ministry of Urban Development in the current fiscal year. The road has been widened by seven meters, and RCC slopes and drains have been constructed, informed Abhishek Adhikari, acting office chief of the Dumre Customs Office.
He said that a 450-meter slope has been made in the road section, which is considered the most difficult. According to the office, three kilometers of blacktop, two hundred meters of slope, and three kilometers of gravel road were completed in the last fiscal year in that section.
