Dang. Jaya Chaudhary of Dangisharan rural municipality-6, Bagar, was forced to stand in line for water in the village’s sajha well until a year ago. He still remembers the compulsion to bring water to two gallons at the same time by standing in line from 4 am after the well dried up in the drought of April and April.

Chaudhary’s daily routine has changed after water started coming to the house from the tank built near the house. She expressed happiness that daily life has become easier after getting drinking water easily. “Time has been saved by using tap water. Vegetables are being cultivated in Karesabari and production is being done to feed them at home,” she said.

Budhni Chaudhary of the same area said that after the construction of drinking water tap in the courtyard of the house, it has become easier to consume daily and feed the cattle.  Under the ‘One House, One Dhara’ campaign, water facility has reached every household after the construction of the drinking water project was completed a year ago. Budhni said, “There was a well in the village for drinking water. With the formation of a new stream in the house, this problem has now been solved forever. In the summer season, the source of drinking water has dried up and the problem of carrying a bag for drinking water has been removed. ’

Resham Oli, chairman of Dangisharan-6 Bagar Drinking Water Users Committee, said water was being distributed to households by digging borewells with the help of the Water Supply and Sanitation Division Office and with the participation of the locals. Stating that he has been distributing water for two hours every day, he said there was some problem in the absence of water storage tank.

“As many as 200 families have applied for water supply, while 186 families are currently receiving the facility while others are in the process. As many as 200 consumers pay the tariff every month as the meters have not been installed,” oli said.

Dangisharan-6 ward chair Roshan Jung Shah said that water facility has been provided to the residents of the ward through boring pipes. “We had asked for votes to provide one house, one tap in the election, accordingly we have started supplying water. There is no water tank, there is a problem of water storage,” he said.

Shah said that if the federal and provincial governments cooperate in the construction of the structures, the local government will get some help. Stating that the local government was facing problems in carrying out the works due to lack of adequate budget, he urged the federal and provincial governments to extend support.

Tilak Neupane, chief of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Office, said that efforts have been made to provide easy water to all the citizens as drinking water is the first need of the people. “Some drinking water projects have been taken forward in collaboration with the local levels and some have not been completed on time due to lack of budget,” he said.

Neupane said that water could not be supplied to all immediately as the multi-year plan would take more time and human resources. According to him, the government is moving ahead with the goal of providing clean water to all by effectively implementing the ‘One House, One Tap’ program.
