Kathmandu. All provincial governments are ready to print driver’s licenses from the upcoming 1st of July.
The Department of Transport Management has decided to print the remaining driver’s licenses and all provinces will print driver’s licenses from the upcoming 1st of April to the 1st of July.
The decision was made at a meeting of the thematic committee including the transport ministers and secretaries of all seven provinces at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on Tuesday. The Department of Transport Management has also prepared a driver’s license format for uniformity in driver’s licenses issued by all provinces.
A meeting chaired by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has decided that the federal government, in collaboration with the provincial government, will make policy arrangements to organize ride sharing and achieve uniformity by coordinating policies among the provinces.
Similarly, it has been decided to make the payment system in the transport sector electronic and to start the electronic payment system in all provinces by the upcoming Chaitra month.
It has been decided that this will initially be applied to the Electronic Driver’s License – ‘EDL’ and gradually be implemented in all payment sectors. Yes. The meeting concluded by taking decisions on various important issues.
The meeting reviewed the decisions of the previous meeting and stated that the implementation of the decisions of the last meeting will also be regularly reviewed. The provincial ministers and secretaries also pledged to expedite the printing of driver’s licenses from the province itself and the connection of embossed numbers.
Practice of federalism in transport management
Stateing that the implementation of federalism in the transport sector will gain momentum with the decisions made by the committee meeting, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal also urged the provincial ministers to be diligent in implementing the rights granted by the constitution.
Says that the federal ministry will always support the provinces in implementing the rights granted to them, he said that issues such as increasing revenue and providing services to citizens in a timely manner will be addressed. He also urged to prioritize implementation.
Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry Keshav Kumar Sharma said that the Ministry is ready to provide necessary support for the implementation of the decisions taken by the meeting and that the Department of Transport Management will also provide technical support.
Similarly, Director General of the Department of Transport Management Rajiv Pokharel mentioned that assistance has been provided in necessary matters including printing and distribution of driving licenses, attaching embossed numbers, digitization of blue books, and electronic payments.
