Kathmandu. The Ministry of Home Affairs has clarified that it is working with an action plan to address the growing security challenges.
At a press conference organized at the ministry today, Spokesperson Ram Chandra Tiwari said that policy and legal reforms, peace and security, crime control and ending impunity have been given high priority.
Speaker Tiwari said that increasing road accidents, suicides, drug abuse, revenue leakage and cybercrime have emerged as security challenges.
A bill to formulate a new act in the changed context by replacing the Police Act, 2012 and the Armed Police Act, 2058, and a bill to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063, giving priority to policy and legal reforms. It was registered in the Federal Parliament on Magh 15, he said.
The Ministry has stated that the Disaster Sensitive Social Security and Relief Distribution Standards, 2081, Disaster Affected Private Housing Reinforcement, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Grant Procedure, 2081 (First Amendment), and Temporary Housing Construction Grant Standards for Disaster Affected Households, 2081 have been approved and implemented to make the work related to reconstruction and rehabilitation, including relief, more effective.
The Ministry has established immigration offices at Tinker in Darchula and Korola in Mustang to streamline border and immigration administration, service delivery from a well-equipped building at the Immigration Office in Belhiya, and issuance of travel permits to Nepali citizens from districts bordering China. It has been stated that the procedure for providing it has been implemented.
The Nuwakot prison with a capacity of 1,370 has been put into operation, and preparations have been completed to operate a prison with a capacity of 268 in Morang and 30 in Mugu, Spokesperson Tiwari informed.
The Centralized Citizenship Information Management System has been expanded to provide online citizenship recommendations from 1,922 wards in 25 districts.
The ministry has stated that 12 systems of various public service providers have been interconnected with the National Identity Card Management Information System and biometric verification of beneficiaries of social security allowances is being gradually expanded.
