Baglung. A landslide has destroyed a school building in a school here, affecting teaching and learning. The building of Naitul Basic School in Badigad Rural Municipality-4 of Baglung has collapsed.
A landslide that fell from above the school due to incessant rains since Saturday evening has completely damaged four classrooms in two buildings. The roof of one of the two buildings collapsed, causing the landslide to enter the classroom, and the roof of the other building collapsed, according to the school’s principal, Bam Bahadur Bogati. He said that teaching and learning are being affected as both school buildings are at high risk of landslides. Principal Bogati said that only young children were studying in the school.
He said, ‘The landslide occurred at night. If it had occurred during the day, there could have been human casualties. Even if the landslide has stopped now, it is not possible to conduct classes in the school. The landslide has caused major damage to four rooms. The classrooms are muddy after the landslide entered them. It is difficult to rebuild them after they collapse.’
Vice-Chairman of the rural municipality, Bhimsen Van, said that an alternative would be found to resume classes immediately. He said that the municipality will create an environment for classes if classes are affected as preparations are underway to conduct the first quarterly exams at the municipal level from Asad 18. There are 122 children studying in the school, which offers classes up to grade 8.
