Bhojpur. The concrete bridge being built at Lamsuwaghat on the Arun River, connecting Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha from the northern region, has been stalled for 14 years. The construction of this bridge has been stalled after spending about 40 million.
The construction of the bridge at Lamsuwaghat had started in 2067 BS. The construction of the bridge here has been stalled after laying the base of six pillars, said Ward Chairman Suman Bisunke of Shadananda 6. ‘The work of building the bridge has been stalled for 14 years,’ said Ward Chairman Bisunke, ‘The work has been stalled after spending about 40 million rupees by the state. If this bridge were built, it would have been a relief to the locals.’
Work had been started here for the construction of a 172-meter-long concrete bridge. Sitaram Lamsal, a local resident of Shadananda 6, said that the state should pay attention to completing the bridge that was left unfinished during the construction process. He said that there is a problem in movement due to the lack of a permanent bridge. “The Lamsuwaghat permanent bridge is in a state of being left unfinished during the construction process,” he said. “We who were hoping for the bridge to be built are disappointed. The state needs to pay attention to the construction of this bridge.”
The construction company had started the construction of the bridge in 2067 BS. According to the agreement, the bridge was to be completed in 2070 BS. However, the contract was canceled by the state after the construction company delayed the work, informed Shubhajan Dahal, Chief of the Road Division Office, Tumlingtar. He said that the case filed by the construction company after the contract cancellation process went into effect in 2078 BS was decided in favor of the office. Even after the verdict, the construction company filed a writ in the court again demanding compensation for damages, and the court upheld the writ, so the problem is in the process of being resolved through a three-member mediator, he said.
The contract was canceled by the state after the work was not done, said Chief Dahal, “The construction company had filed a lawsuit on the said issue. Both cases have been decided in favor of the office.” The construction company filed a writ again demanding compensation for damages. The court has upheld the writ. Further process will proceed only after the outcome of that. He informed that currently, the company’s deposit of Rs. 7.7 million has been withheld.
